A Monites..

Went over to Golspie today with W, D and G to look at the rock, mineral, and fossil collection that "may" be coming to a new Geo(logy)centre in Scourie.
Scourie and the NW Highlands are the cradle of geology, the geologists Mecca. It was in this region that "thrust" zones were first observed and understood. I was in this region that the intrusions of hot magma were first observed erupting through fault lines in the earths crust. This led to the theories about plate tectonics, and the understanding of volcanic activity and earthquake zones.

And it all started in the NW Highlands, where we have the oldest rock formations this side of the Atlantic. There are some older rocks in Canada, which was part of the ancient continental plate Laurentia, along with Scotland.

So we have this opportunity to house this collection in this world famous region. The Development Company is doing it's bit, but we need to work in conjunction with the Geopark, and soon the chance of obtaining this collection will be lost.

Camera club tonight, and we had a very interesting talk on Composition by Bruce Wallace from East Sutherland Camera Club. Also had a short film of images from Iona, and we then quickly went trough the entries from the Highland Challenge competition, with a comments on the pictures by Bruce. A very interesting night, thank you..

Did some shopping in Tain while we were over "East side", and now ready for a few days with R and L..

A lovely day again, and another one forecast for tomorrow. Think I may be busy on the croft sowing seeds..
