North Wales day one

Nipped up to North Wales to visit mum. Impossible to stay in though in such fine weather and Happy_Janwen and I slipped out to Holyhead on Anglesey. I've always ignored it before, thinking it's just a boarding point for the ferry to Ireland at the end of the A55 expressway, but it's a fascinating place.

There's an old abandoned mock castle that would have fitted in very well with Derelict Thursday (on a different day and when the theme was running, which is ain't!), and a longer than expected breakwater to walk along. The walk out to the lighthouse and back is equivalent to our regular perambulations around the village at home - something like three or four miles - and with all the getting there too it was a decent stroll under a hot Sun (and the heat was of course trapped in the stonework - must remember water next time!).

The headland itself is also coated in the most gorgeous golden gorse.

At some stage, there might have been ice cream...
