Sumac

Flowers of the aromatic sumac, Rhus aromatica, tiny little yellow globular clusters of flowers. Few leaves have opened yet, just a few on the bottom left. This plant is also called stinking sumac or skunk bush on account of the smell of the leaves when crushed. Widespread in Kansas.
We have another sumac, Rhus copallina, whose leaves have a quite different shape and turn brilliant red in the fall.

Today has been windy but dry after another half inch of rain last night (together with the almost requisite thunder and lightning). all very welcome moisture.

Thank you for all the stars and comments on the pheasant's eye. Glad you liked it. I had not noticed the fly until I had uploaded. A bonus!
