Dancing Sculpture

A new artwork has been added to Whakatane's sculpture trail. Its called the Double Stretch by Auckland sculptor John Oxborough.

It depicts two figures enjoying a prance around the garden, one is in the mist of stretching and one is in brisk movement. From different angles the limbs and bodily parts move as one with both figures using the limbs of the other while acting as two completely separate figures. The figures and stance change depending on the angle you are viewing the sculpture from.

It was made from premium metal and Oamaru stone - the materials chosen by the sculptor that encouraged age and weathering as with all forms of life. It sits on the Warren Cole Walkway, along the stopbank with the river flowing beside it. The trees are from the other side of the river and make a great background for this murky, rainy day. I like the slightly off centre position of the artwork.

Added up the stocktake sheets and mulled around, had a little time outside wandering along the stopbank for some fresh air - another lovely day with my dear cousin :)
