Manchester in one picture....

If one picture could sum up Manchester at the moment it is this one. The recession is well behind us as George Osborne's 'Northern Powerhouse' takes flight. Everywhere there are building sites and demolition. We can't be far off, or have even surpassed, the amount of building that went on in the early noughties before the world's economy went belly up.

This is New Bailey, across the River Irwell from Spinningfields. As one, less than wonderful, 80s office block bites the dust, a new office building begins to take shape next door.
