Le crunch

Here we see a prime example of the "mouse and garnish" phenomenon.
As anyone familiar with cats will know, they dispatch their prey swiftly and cleanly with a 'killing bite' to the back of the neck, thus severing the spinal cord and causing instant death. It's a hardwired reflex action so decisive that any sort of foliage that happens to get in the way is trapped as the jaws snap shut. So it's not unusual to find a tuft of grass accompanying the mouse when it is brought back to the lair kitchen. In this case a whole strand of ivy has arrived avec souris just like those amusing little leafy garnishes we find on the side of our restaurant plates and don't usually bother to eat.
