Queen Bomba ternaruis Arrives

Queen bumblebee (Bomba ternarius) came out of her winter nest yesterday. By the time I rushed into the house & got the camera then chased her all over, this was the best picture I could get.  Looks a bit like a spider in the flower,  but she really is a furry fat  girl with a dark orange waistline. She was hungry and hitting all the crocus opened and waiting for her. I located her true name  I read about Eastern  U. S. Bumblebees  on the Internet and found out that the Queens come out around here in April and everyone else later on with a one year lifespan.
These same crocus were blooming & blipped on Easter 4/5. With our cool temperatures  they just last and last. Still happy on 4/17.
Note to Self:
Plant hundreds more crocus bulbs this fall around the bee homes for the  hungry bumblebees next spring. I never know where they will show up because the squirrels moved them as if they are their nuts.
