Ooops!

It hasn't been a great day, ending with frustration rather than any kind of satisfaction, but it wasn't as bad as that of the guy driving this taxi! Amazingly, he managed to walk away with just a few cuts and bruises. I missed the incident by only a minute or two as I passed by at the end of my cycle into work this morning. I managed to speak to someone who saw it happen. Apparently, he was reversing to park his cab against the fence and somehow, just before coming to a stop, hit the gas rather than the brake! He accelerated into and through the fence, down the embankment, flipping bonnet over boot and spinning to land right on the railway track that runs past our offices. The most surreal thing was to hear the radio still blaring out and see the hazard warning lights blinking away. To have the wherewithal to turn those on under such circumstances is quite impressive. It could have been so very much worse. It's a very busy line in the morning.

A few people soon gathered to watch and I said to one woman that this is a sight you don't see in Shipley every day - to which she replied that it's actually just the kind of thing you see in Shipley every day! I conceded her the point. It's that kind of place. Nothing surprises you here after a while.
