Crazy About Birds

By Kimb

White-throated Sparrow...

... getting ready to head north. The Dark-eyed Juncos (Snowbirds) have already gone, these guys will be gone soon. They should all have headed north by the end of this month, I expect. Right now they're singing their heads off - tuning up for the breeding and territory defending season when they get to Canada - and eating all day long. I wonder if they wait until they get to their breeding grounds to pair up, or if there are mated pairs here? Hmmm.

Actually the bigger news here - which sadly did not produce a usable photo - is that the first Ruby-throated Hummingbird of the season has arrived back at our house. A male, sighted this afternoon visiting the feeder I had already hung out in anticipation of his return. The ladies will be back a bit later on.
