Greater chickweed

I had an excellent day recording in South Lincolnshire with six other botanists. We started in an ancient woodland which had largely been replanted, but retained many of its characteristic flowers including early purple orchids, bluebells, goldilocks, herb-paris and wood anemones. Just before lunch we discovered a thriving colony of greater chickweed along the wood-edge. This is a much more handsome plant than common chickweed, usually having ten purple anthers and larger flowers. It's quite a rarity in our area, and this is only the seventh site for it in VC53. The afternoon was spent recording in a nearby village, though it was rather too tidy for our taste!
