Elwin

Lovely to meet up with good friend, eclectic polymath Elwin. He was born in India, where his father was a missionary doctor and grew up in East London and, for a while, Africa. A keen musician, motorcyclist, sporting enthusiast and one-time chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral, he has served as a parish priest, Chaplain to West Ham United, and most recently as Archdeacon of West Ham. If you're wondering what an Archdeacon does, the office has been described as that of oculus episcopi, the bishop's eye, and I read earlier today:

I think they sort stuff out, often messy stuff, because they have clout.
