Sgwarnog: In the Field

Green

I'd been out looking for the first Green Hairstreaks at the weekend, but with no success. Today, in between large bouts of marking coursework, I went out to investigate their usual spots on Baildon Moor, and the emergence was well underway. I counted a total of twenty seven in a number of different locations - if I get a chance to do a survey on a warm sunny day in a few weeks the numbers should be in three figures.

There are still lots of Peacocks and Small Tortoiseshells about, a few Small White and one Orange-tip. On the bird front the Willow Warblers were marking their noisy arrival.
