Mains Castle

It was my first visit to James Hamilton Heritage Park today in South Lanarkshire. The loch  is overlooked by the castle which dates back to the 15th century. It had a chequered history and lay abandoned for about 100 years till a theatre entertainer Mike Rowan, known as 'Big Rory' - a character on stilts, undertook its restoration in the 70s. He bought it for the princely sum of £150 but over a ten year building period he chalked up two awards. Today it looked magnificent across the loch.
