A touch of the Orient

This morning we paid an early visit to Lauriston Castle which overlooks Cramond Island on the shores of the Forth to the NW of Edinburgh city centre. Sunshine right from the start too!

I'd never been to Lauriston and had not heard of the Kyoto Friendship Garden either. I suspect that the Japanese would be a little more particular about the maintenance than are Edinburgh Council (this is a gardener speaking, you understand!) but it was still a lovely place and one that I will go back too. Our visit was timed perfectly as the cherries were at the peak of perfection.

We left at 10.15 to come home as I was due to give a guided rhododendron walk as part of the Glorious Gardens of Argyll & Bute's Rhododendron Festival. Unfortunately after all that I found only two ladies waiting for the walk - and they weren't particularly interested in rhododendrons either - but they had a personal guided tour for an hour and a half so two people were pleased!
