CannyScot's Day

Rachel House Children's Hospice

A bright day turning dull later.

Our daughter works at Rachel House in Kinross, which is a Hospice providing care for children and young people who have life shortening illnesses. She had invited us to attend the annual Open Day so went down this morning. It is a wonderful place which cares not only for the children but also the rest of the family, mainly by providing respite breaks. Everywhere we looked was decorated and kitted out to the highest standard, with innovative, personalised designs. The focus of the work is to provide the best possible end of life experience for the whole family and it seems that this is achieved in a way which would not be possible without dedicated staff and a host of volunteers.

It was a very moving experience and, had we lived closer, would have wanted to help. They have a sister Hospice called Robin House near Loch Lomond and, since it is a charity, they have to raise over nine million pounds a year, so we will donate when we can.
