Bitter Orange

I've got a tip for you if you are a photographer. The male orange tip butterfly has love on his mind and when the weather is good he doesn't settle for long in his relentless search for females. Sometimes he gets confused and will briefly check out white flowers or even pieces of paper. Shoot butterflies on a cold day. The orange tip has a beautiful camouflage on the reverse of its wings and you will miss it unless your eyes are out on stalks. Mine was on greater stitchwort and blended in beautifully. As soon as the sun came out he was off.

I've got a tip for you if you are a predator. Those orange tips of his are a warning that that he doesn't taste good. When he was a larva he fed on mustardy food which has given him a bitter taint.
