Dunno....

We walked 9 and a bit miles around Hardley Flood today. sunny with a cooling breeze.

After the initial walk away from Chedgrave on the roadwe followed the river Yare until it joined the Chet. The banks are dykes with the surrounding land lower, protected by the earthworks from flooding.

We found this little fellow [about 35mm long] in the grass on his own and although I have looked in many reference texts, online and inbook, I have no idea what it is the caterpillar of. Any Ideas?

The rest of the walk was taken up with 'Spot the Reed warbler' and 'Count the Heron'. The flood itself was full of Grebe.
