Cows

A great circular walk from Priddy via Ebbor Gorge and Wookey Hole.

Rain, sun, wind, rain, sun, wind.

Stunning views across to Glastonbury Tor that the camera does not seem to do justice to. It's a magical spot.

Priddy is a lovely little village with a long history.  There are bronze aged barrows in abundance - we walked passed the Priddy Nine-Barrows which, as the name suggests, are a neat line of nine barrows on the ridge of a hill.

Lead mining started here in 200-300 BC and there is still plenty of evidence of this now discontinued industry.

Priddy is also situated above a wide network of caves. There were a couple of groups of cavers out today. Always struck me as an unusual past-time.

We met the cows as we walked back down to Priddy pool. Very curious and easily spooked.

Good to have a technology free day and a chance to get out of the house. The boys did enjoy it despite the occasional moan.

The additional photo is of the Priddy sheep hurdle stack, which was sadly destroyed a few years ago in an arson attack. Now rebuilt, it is what it is, a stack of sheep hurdles. Used in the sheep fair that has taken place here since it's move from the black death ridden Wells in 1348 (although cancelled last year!).
