Day at a Time

Here lies our land: every airt

A beautiful warm, sunny day.  What a contrast to yesterday (and tomorrow if the forecast's to be believed).  Took the dog for a walk at the Bannockburn Visitor Centre.  At the back of the centre is the statue of The Bruce riding into battle which you can see here.  The photograph is taken from the rotunda on which is inscribed the poem commissioned from the writer Kathleen Jamie to mark the 700th anniversary of the battle last year.  The full poem reads:

Here lies our land: every airt
Beneath swift clouds, glad glints of sun,
Belonging to none but itself.

We are mere transients, who sing
Its westlin’ winds and fernie braes,
Northern lights and siller tides,

Small folk playing our part.
‘Come all ye’, the country says,
You win me, who take me most to heart.

It's a bit more conciliatory than all the battle commemoration in my view.
