Sgwarnog: In the Field

Rovers

The final Championship match of the season saw us traveling over the Pennines to Blackburn to watch nephew Adam in action for Rovers..

While Rovers were sure of finishing 9th whatever the result, their opponents Ipswich Town were one of four teams vying for the last two play-off spots so there was still a competitive edge to the match.

Ipswich took a very early lead but three goals in the middle thirty minutes of match gave Rovers a good lead. Ipswich got one back through a penalty, but it ended 3-2. Results elsewhere meant that the Town fans were still cheering a play-off spot, and the home win gave the traditional end-of-season lap of honour a celebratory mood for Rovers players and fans alike.

On such occasions the players take family onto the pitch, and 7yo was delighted to be thrust over the barrier to be carried around by her cousin (main image). Post-match was spent with 10yo and 7yo gathering autographs in the players' lounge before we accompanied Adam on his final duties of the day: a media interview (image: bottom left) and signing everything thrust at him by all the young Rovers fans waiting at the players' entrance (image: bottom right).  Then it was back to my sister's for Saturday tea before the journey home. A great day out and a lovely family occasion.
