Operation Manna

Operation Manna was the title of the food droppings just after the liberation of Holland in WW2.

It's purpose was to feed the starving Dutch people after the hunger winter of 1944 / 45.

Read all about it on wiki!

Today was Liberation Day in Holland and it was scheduled to reconstruct the food droppings of Operation Manna over the town of Vlaardingen.

Originally there would be 5 vintage war planes involved, but due to technical issues it was downsized to two planes.

Today at 13:00 it would take place, but had to be postponed as there was an enormous storm / rain exactly at that time.

It was delayed to 14:00 h. but at 13:30 I suddenly heard the plane - this B25 Mitchell - fly over half an hour earlier than stated on internet.

Quickly I ran to the dropping zone in the rain and had the opportunity to make this shot during the second fly-by.

I was one of the less than 100 people who saw it. Most others arrived  after the rain just before 14:00 to hear that the event had already taken place and they were too late.

You can imagine those - many, many - people were disappointed (and even pissed off).
