This is the Gate of the Lord

At the end of a challenging day, I called in at a public exhibition being held in a side room inside St Phillips Church. It is a pre-application consultation by the landowner and team, the application itself will be submitted a week on Friday. A very prominent site further down Chapel St which deserves a good development. It looks good so far from the detail in the exhibition.

The church itself is a fine 18th century building. It's setting is changing, hopefully for the better. Vimto Gardens (Vimto was first brewed - is that the term - in a warehouse on Chapel St in 1908) promises to look good when complete, and to the side of the church another development of town houses will hopefully be complementary. The Angel Centre is a good place to get a coffee (real community feel inside), and the X1 student accommodation opposite is a huge improvement on Boniecki Motors.

To enter the exhibition I had to pass through the Gate of the Lord. The door needs a coat of paint, the interior of the Church is very fine. The reverend runs photography trips for the local community, so would hopefully approve of this shot - it's a door, but clearly not just any old door.
