Macro menace!

I have been longing to try macro photography and a friend kindly lent me a macro lens and extension rings (if that's what they're called??) - sadly with no tuition from him!

Being the impatient sort, I didn't use my time wisely and read hints and tips...I just 'bunged' the lens on and had a go.

First thing I realised...only manual focus - yikes, that was a first for me too! Second - no dof choice. Third - I'm not very steady when crouching down! 

Anyway - I snapped some of this horror munching his way through my pansies. I was quite pleased with it as a first attempt...now I'll go and read what I should have done!
