Under the Nor'West Arch, Rangitata River

Heavy rain in the headwaters of the rivers up in the High Country earlier in the week meant the Rangitata was running bank-to-bank earlier in the week, but by this morning it was possible to get down onto the river stones, even though there was a liberal coating of grey mud everywhere. (check out the extra photo for a close-up with some tiny flowers between the stones).

You could almost think that I've used selective colour in this image, but it really is that monochromatic, save for a flash of blue over the mountains and the golden hues of the river willows.
