Handling it

An emergency bone assessment today; i.e. four days' work that I'll have to do in two :[
The tedium (sheep, sheep, cattle, horse, sheep) was relieved somewhat by finding two tool handles amongst the bones that were just bones.
This one was made from a sheep metacarpal; the hole in the end is drilled to take the tang of an iron tool, and the surface of the bone has taken on a polish from being gripped, very different from the normal surface of the bone (although difficult to photograph!) The other handle was huge, made from the tibia of a cow and about 30cm/a foot long. This one is around 12cm/ 5".
Nice to be asked by CanCarrier to identify a bone when I got home! Much more satisfying for a friend :)
