Red Campion along the lane

There has been a small clump of red campion growing along the lane as long as we've lived here. But this year it has taken on a much larger proportions and also taken up a spot on the other side of the road. Long may it continue. It's called red campion although to my eyes it's more like mauve going into purple. It's official name is Silene dioica and in Wales it's called Snake's flower according to my wild flower book.
The name Campion always takes me back to the detective novels by Margery Allingham whose detective is called Campion. They were published in the thirties and are among my favourites. My mother-in-law too loved them and I've inherited many of her copies.
