Party in the City!!

“The 2015 Festival kicks off with a bang as Party in the City explodes around Bath. Our legendary opening night is back and bigger than ever with over 40 venues, hundreds of performers and a Disco Turtle, as seen at Glasto! Set in and around the city’s world-famous townscape, expect to hear everything from swing, soul and blues to classical, ska, jazz, rock, pop and more.” www.bathfestivals.org.uk

It took a monumental effort to force myself out of the house and to take the bus into Bath later this afternoon, but it was so worth it! This evening saw the opening night of the International Bath Music Festival which was marked by the annual Party in the City, with music of all descriptions being played around the city in pubs, bars, churches, museums and outdoors in parks and in the street, along with a variety of street performers, roaming the streets of Bath. And all for free!!

After meeting up with a friend, we spent the evening wandering around Bath enjoying a variety of music in a variety of locations. All together we managed to sample eleven different performances. With 150 different events being put on, it was difficult to choose where to go next! We saw a talented young violin soloist, a jazz group, a folk duo, a samba band, to name but a few!! But the most moving performance has to be the headline act we listened to in Bath Abbey at the end of the evening. It was a choir made up of the Bath Community Gospel Choir singing alongside young carers from across the South West who were performing original music about their lives, accompanied by Bath Philarmonia. The moving music sent tingles down your spine…

Not a great crop of photos for me to choose from today, I was too busy enjoying myself! Did I mention that some of the events were held in pubs and bars?!!
