Alderfly

Went for a lunchtime walk in the botanical gardens and had a good view of a red kite perched in one of the tall trees. I watched as it took off, did some low circuits of the gardens and then headed up onto the sky. 

I manage to do a tour of the lake too. It was quite dull so not many insects around. This alderfly was sitting on the vegetation by the lake edge. I loved the patterns on the wings that looked like leaded light windows. They're described as sluggish on the internet and this one was quite happy to  have a lens poked at it.
