Dawn chorus walk 2

As part of the anti-stress activities at the university, the chaplaincy was running a dawn chorus walk this morning. This one did have a really early start - 5am - so I did have to be up early and out in time. The birds were already singing as I left the house. We walked around some different areas of the campus - dense woodland, parkland and then by the lake. It was fun to try and pick out some of the rarer birds from the shouting wrens. We saw/heard herons, egyptian geese, Canada geese, stock doves, goldcrest, tree creeper, blackbird, black cap, chiff chaff, wren, pheasant, long-tailed tits, great tits and song thrushes. The picture shows us all stopping by the lake to watch a fox as it ambled along the path before disappearing into the bushes.

Some went back to the chaplaincy for breakfast but I drove back home, showered, ate, dressed and then cycled back in plenty of time for work.

It did seem like a long day by the time I got home.
