Wartime wedding dress detail

Went straight from the station to the local library for a History Wardrobe event. I've been to several of these in the past and they are always funny and educational. This time the subject was fashion and costume in WW1 to coincide with the 100 year anniversary.

The stories of how the women stayed home and knitted socks were interesting. Fashion took a back seat for a while but women also needed different clothes for the new jobs and roles that they ended up taking on. They also had to 'keep up appearances' and maintain standards for when the men came home. A really good event.

Many of the clothes they show are originals. This is the detail from a wedding dress from the era - the detail on the back was lovely.
