Let the Holiday weekend begin!

Memorial Day is this coming Monday and many workplaces have early releases this afternoon to begin the long weekend. It's the kick off to summer, three days of family gatherings, cookouts, parades and remembering.

It is with heavy hearts that our Hanover Garden Club members will set up today and hold our big fundraising plant sale tomorrow. Yesterday, after our May meeting, one of our members, a dear friend, went home to find that her husband had passed away while she was at the meeting. Fritz was also a club member, but had been in failing health recently. Failing health or not, Fritz was always ready to help. He had difficulty with stairs and our sale tomorrow is held on the second floor of a church hall. (It's the hall where we were married, and dear Fritz & Barbara were there with us.) Fritz had a clever idea to make it still possible to sell his always popular, bargain priced, robust trees and grasses from the back of his truck in the church parking lot. We were thrilled that he could be with us, but it was not to be. We'll rally today and tomorrow and then take Barbara under our wings. I cannot believe he is gone, T and I loved him very much.

For the Record,
This day came in sunny and cool, just perfect.

All hands heartbroken

My dad made that Uncle Sam figure for one of his whirligigs.

My brother has reported that our old (circa 1840)and beloved summer place in Machiasport came through the winter ordeal of 2015 with flying colors. No leaks or damage and not even any evidence of mouse parties!
