Jack Rabbit At Petroglyph Point, Tulelake CA

What a day!  We started out ready to explore more of the Tulelake NWR, and ran into a helpful soul who offered to take us around to see several owls, a swainson's hawk, a nesting prairie falcon, and other birds...and at the end of several hours we ran into this cute guy at Petroglyph Point which is part of the Lava Beds National Monument near Tulelake.  He literally hopped right up to us before he realized we were people, and then he quickly retreated to join about 4 other rabbits...too fun!!!

Petroglyph Point was a great spot to watch for raptors as they would circle overhead or appear out of nowhere behind the sheer cliffs.  At times there would be 3 or 4 different birds circling and chasing each other.

Be sure to check out my flickr set, to see the barn owl hidden in the rocks of a sheer cliff (almost impossible to see, unless it is pointed out) and a family of Great Horned Owls which was a mama and 4 babies.  These were on a ledge and also well hidden as they blended in perfectly with the surrounding rock.
