Profile In Courage

What must this little male finch have been through?  He appears to have lost his right eye and has damage on his neck.  Did he survive an attack from another bird?  Some other predator?

The survival of the fittest.  He survived.  Did his adversary or did this finch merely escape?  I hated to see this photograph but I felt compelled to share it.

EDIT:  After further investigation, I realized that this poor guy is suffering from Finch Eye Disease.  I needed to clean the feeder and water dishes with bleach and avoid putting out anything to draw them for a little bit because the flock needs to scatter.
