There never was a finer day

As we were out visiting in  the direction of Thornhill and as it was a perfect Spring day, we decided to make use of our season ticket to  visit Drumlanrig Castle. D  said he thought there was a poem about May 23rd and how  beautiful it was,  so we looked it up,   and yes,  it was written by Edward Thomas,  who was killed on  the first  day of the Battle of Arras in 1917. As D doesn't usually read poetry, I asked him how he knew about it,  and he said he had studied it for O level English 40 years ago...
