Jack's Lock

Back at Jack's Lock on the Grand Union Canal today, enjoying the evening sunshine and several glasses of well chilled Pinot Grigio.
This is such a delightful spot where canal life on any one of the several narrow boats which pass by alongside the garden regularly seems idyllic.
I am sure that life aboard a narrow boat with its dimensional restrictions can be very disciplined. Seven Feet actual width of a standard 72ft length boat gives very little room to spread yourselves, but I've yet to see a narrow boat man or woman looking unhappy.
The more experienced tell me it's a different , alternative, way of life. And my belief is there are few who would change it for a conventional life ashore.
