Steam Rally

We had a fun day out at the steam rally at Allerton Park near Harrogate.

We met up with our daughter, her husband and baby Jessica, along with son-in-laws parents.

It seemed quite a reasonable show - as well as the steam powered vehicles there were 'classic' cars, various old commercial vehicles, fairground organs and a host of old tractors. The obligatory fun-fair and food stalls completed the event.

There was a lot of smoke - not just from the steam engines, some of the petrol and diesel vehicles were competing well!

Trying to get a shot of the steam engines without people or modern vehicles included was quite a challenge - but I managed it here (just).

As always at these shows you see some of the hard work that goes into presenting the vehicles for show - so many cans of oil, WD40 and Brasso were on display with polishing cloths galore.

The highlight for me was the parade of 22 steam vehicles (including one lorry) in the main arena. There were still plenty of other engines that didn't get in the parade.

Most enjoyable day out!
