Plant in Copper Bowl

Our niece Laura and her husband Eric are visiting this weekend (here's their stay last summer). They were out to the art fair down the street this afternoon, and brought back this very distinctive plant and elegant copper bowl.  An ID of the plant would be appreciated :)
