Ragged robin

I'm on call today, so I can't stray far from home today. Thankfully no one has called yet so I've not had to do anything messy yet.

After breakfast I loaded the washing machine and strimmed the bank at the front of the house. The slope is rather boring with just ivy and grass growing on it. We've started to put a few more interesting plants in, but that makes it more awkward to keep the grass under control.

Today's blip is a close up of a ragged robin (Lychnis flos-cuculi) flower on our wild flower lawn at the front of the house. This lawn is nice and low maintenance, just one cut per year, it is drought tolerant, and is a lot more interesting to look at than a plain lawn. At the moment the red campions are coming to the end of their flowering cycle and the ragged robin are now in full flow - though they are the same colour as each other so you have to look carefully to see them. The daisy are starting to pop out too. We've also mixed in crocus and a few other conventional garden flowers.
