Mowing grass

L, T, and T and K came to lunch and afterwards T carried on mowing the grass for silage which hopefully will be gathered in before any serious rain!  The grass has to wilt (but not dry as in hay) once it is cut for a  couple of days.  He has already got the team together for the job which consists of foraging, trailer hauling, flattening the grass in the pit etc etc, not a relaxing time with tractors flying around everywhere.  And this year we have had to mow two thirds of our one field of oats as there is a lot of black grass growing in it and the oats would not be acceptable at harvest to any buyer if we left them and the black grass seeds would also spread even more if we did not cut them off.

In the picture is also our dilapidated barn which is sadly falling down as the badgers have played havoc with the foundations.  There have been barn owls in there fairly recently.

The extra photo is of the "mackerel sky" this evening.
