CannyScot's Day

Broughty Ferry Library

A bright, sunny day with a light breeze.

Eleanor and I both had Dental appointments in Broughty Ferry in the morning. I need work done at some time but will reserve that for another day.

Afterwards, we stopped at the Library so that I could take this photo, which I have been meaning to do for a while.

Andrew Carnegie was a Scottish American industrialist who led the enormous expansion of the American steel industry in the late 19th century. He built a leadership role as a philanthropist for America and the British Empire. He was born in Dunfermline, Scotland but made his money in Pittsburgh, USA.
He gave money to establish Libraries, firstly in Dunfermline in 1883, and then all over the world, with around 3,000 being part funded by this man of vision.

Broughty Ferry Library was opened in 1928 and remains as a vibrant facility for the folk of the area. Sadly, due to austerity measures, many Libraries across the UK are being closed. I guess it is also a case of ‘use it or lose it’.
