Slender bedstraw

This tiny chalk downland plant, Galium pumilum or Slender Bedstraw, was flowering well this morning on private land adjacent to the nature reserve at its only location in Buckinghamshire. This is now the most northerly site in the UK for this nationally rare species. Since re-finding it a few years ago we have been helping the landowner with grazing and general advice and the plant has spread nicely. The extra photo shows the site, with the nature reserve fields and woodland in the distance.
