Kolkata Flower Market

Two weeks of back blipping starting from 14th October

Apparently this isn't a place our guide would have taken western tourists, but we'd been interested to see something of more 'real' life in Kolkata, and it being an unthreatening city this was an easy enough trip. I say 'apparently' because a few days later I was chatting to a guy in Darjeeling who had been told it wasn't somewhere tourists normally go by his guide as they entered the market as well...

Kolkata grows on you the more you stay. Sure it's busy and dirty and quite frankly mental and draining. But it has a charm, and there seems to be a genuine pride in the people.

We also saw where the idols are made
A heavy load
Thundering buses...
Rikshaw 'pullers'
The famed Tata Ambassador taxi
And Kolkata's oldest coffee house
