Late afternoon stroll at Sapsucker Woods...

Late Tuesday afternoon, the forecast thunderstorms hadn't arrived and the sun came out - after some errands we decided to take a stroll at Sapsucker Woods.  It was peaceful and full of songbirds singing away.  By Kip's Barn the Bullfrogs we felt were trying to outdo each other with their deep reverberating croaks, gulps and gribbits.  We saw so many birds, an alligator in the swampy area of the pond (no way - a closer look revealed an old floating log), beautiful yellow Flag Iris, wild lupins, many different bark textures, flowering trees, honeysuckle that perfumed the air as we walked by, reflections of a Canada Goose, and geometrical reflections in the pond next to an unfinished Beaver project.  A light aircraft overhead spoiled the sweet bird voices, then a big clap of thunder so we went inside to view the bird garden but immediately came the announcement that the Lab was closing for the day - I just had time to take a pic of the whimsical Woodpecker sculpture before the main doors were locked behind us.  We could have done with more time to wander around the trails near to the building but the dark clouds were fast gathering overhead with more thunder, so we drove back home.
