Down by the Riverside

The River Leven flows through Stokesley on its way to the Tees. It's not a very big river and nowadays some of the water is diverted away from town along a flood relief channel. In 1929 and 1976 there was deep flooding in Stokesley after the river burst its banks. Since the diversion there has been very little flooding. There is a large population of ducks, one or two of which you can see here.
