Future Scholars

Last night I attended my youngest grandson's pre-school graduation. These children are five and younger, not a time when the attention span stretches as much as an hour. It was one of the most entertaining performances I've ever witnessed, because the performers were being wholly themselves. Yes, they were on their best behavior for much of the time, and the teachers wisely guided them through lively songs and gestures for much of the program. Once they had processed in - looking adorable in bright blue caps, gowns, and tasseled caps - sitting still was well nigh impossible. In this shot they still had their caps, but restlessness was beginning to be obvious. Bryce is the one with his foot in the air. They were watching a slide show of themselves. At least some of them were.

After counting to one hundred in a rhythmic chant, and singing several songs with great enthusiasm, they received their diplomas one by one from their beloved teacher: Miss Shirley. My extra shot is of Miss Shirley with Bryce and his sister, Julia, who was also fortunate enough to have been her student.
