Timber Transport

The road between Glendaruel and Sandbank has recently been upgraded by means of money from the  Scottish Timber Transport Fund so that wood from the west side of Cowal can be exported from the Sandbank pier.

But there are other ways to move trees.  Driving the same road tonight I saw this for the first time - the start of a project to use barges to take timber from hard to reach areas out by sea and over to Ayrshire where the paper mill at Irvine can make use of them.

The idea is good and so was the image - a slash of red in a green and blue landscape which is a little like my picture ten days ago of the blue hulled boat in the Kyles of Bute.
