Plains Garter Snake

Pipersdad found this guy basking in the sun in his woodpile.  They are frequent visitors (? residents) in our yard in the summer.  Now that the sun is finally making a daily appearance again, I think they're starting to wake up for the season.  They are completely harmless but our daughter refuses to step off the deck ever since she saw the first one when we moved in 26 years ago. :-)
