Porty place and people

(With apologies to Joppa strand.)

Up before 6.30 and down to our Edinburgh Marathon cheering station at Portobello Swim Centre. It was a cold morning with drizzly rain. The area around Regent Rd and London Rd was busy with half marathon runners, getting ready to start at 8.

We were in position well before the first runners went past about 8.30. We banged our sticks and cheered, and risked serious RSI.

A coffee break about 10 and then the elite Marathon runners passed about 10.30. We had 5 runners in the half, 1 in the full and 2 teams in the relay. We saw all runners and some extras, colleague F running for another charity, Nuria who was our intern and of course #2 son, running this Marathon for Antony Nolan, in memory of Gary.

The sky cleared but the wind got up and getting back from Porty when we finished was a bit of a mission. All the buses were full of runners coming back from Musselburgh. 3 buses and a walk in the freezing wind later I'm home.

Hot shower, lunch and a quiet afternoon. Just need to find out #2 son's time now.

Update: #2 son wasn't happy with his time - 30 mins slower than London, about 4 hours.  Destroyed hamstring and not at all enamored with the organisation. I think his time is not bad, given the cold and running into the wind on the return.
