Life in Sunny Dubai

Dubai Wind Band

That sounds a funny name doesn't it? But through a contact of G, we had the pleasure of listening to this group of musicians perform for enthusiastic supporters of local talent, sounds from the movies! And a great job they did as well, not the obvious tunes but some well thought out, well chosen pieces composed by people as diverse as John Williams to Klaus Badelt aka composer of Pirates of the Arabian Gulf Caribbean!

Gs contact is the music teacher from the school she shadows a pupil at - Joel - seen on the right in an orange shirt. Joel was one of the first soloists of the evening, playing his flute along with a lady on clarinet - and they did a beautiful rendition of Dimitri Shostakovich's Waltz.

My blip is of another soloist and featured artist - Tracy Bearcroft - a Trinity College soprano who really can sing. Unfortunately, I don't have the name of the piece of music that she really wowed us with. We later discovered when chatting with her that she is a Salvation Army minister based right here in Dubai!!! Who would have thought? [My family are Salvation Army, and I am the grand-daughter of two Colonels!]
