Moving Into The Unknown

Breaking Bridges

Today I attended the 24th Annual Engineering Students' Bridge Competition, which is always a highlight of spring term.  Students work under the expert tutelage of faculty (like Mark, seen here) and build incredible mini bridges that they then destroy in front of the crowd of anxious onlookers.  They measure all kinds of complicated ratios and loads to come up with an overall winner - deemed to be the strongest bridge.  Although I wasn't able to stay for the entire competition, I later heard that this team of young women took the top prize.  Congratulations to these future engineers!
